TLC
Story
TLC was founded by the Johnson County Young Matrons
in 1972 to fulfill an unmet need in our community, a
need for an emergency shelter for abused and neglected
children from infancy through age 18. Prior to the establishment
of TLC, many children were inappropriately placed in
costly hospitals.
Through the years, TLC has expanded its services to
children in crisis to further our mission. The mission
of TLC is to provide opportunities that encourage positive
growth and change for children, youth and families while
ensuring a safe environment. TLC strives for the preservation
and healing of families by providing services, to the
extent allowed by our resources, that compliment existing
community services while maintaining responsiveness
to changing community needs.
From the beginning, TLC has responded to community needs
by implementing programs to meet these needs. TLC's
programs; Residential Treatment Services, Resource Family
Services, Youth Crisis Services, Juvenile Intervention
Services, Street Outreach Services, reflect our continued
efforts to serve children in crisis.
